by Sandra StotskyThis was a short book with a small history of the artist, several beautiful paintings and commentary on the pieces. The reproductions were nice, but because of the size of the book it was difficult to view the paintings making it frustrating to see all of Rembrandt's wonderful details. His use of chiaroscuro, "the use of light and shadow to model forms and produce dramatic effects..." is wonderful, but even in the shadows there are things one wants to see, but it's hard to see in a book. One must go and see these paintings in their original forms. If anything, viewing these reproductions makes me really want to go and see the originals.
(By the way, this isn't the title I read but this is the same ISBN number. The title I readis called The Life and Works of Rembrandt by Douglas Mannering)
